This chart seems a bit misleading.
Consider the populations (given by wikipedia, internet’s most reliable source):
China = 1,338,612,968
Japan = 127,380,000
US = 309,636,000
Indonesia = 229,965,000
Russia = 141,927,297
Divide the cigarettes by population:
China = 1615
Japan = 2802
US = 1068
Indonesia = 1126
Russia = 1683
China smokes 6.5x more than the US. But that’s spread out over 4.3x more population. While the cigarettes-per-country is significantly greater, the cigarettes-per-person is just 1.5x greater.
Meanwhile, the Japanese are smoking 2802 cigarettes per person annually. That seems like a significantly greater amount that should be pointed out on the chart.
